Dental limits and coordinating existing benefits

A reimbursement percentage is only one part of the comparison.

Read the calculation behind the percentage

Compare deductibles, eligible services, fee schedules, waiting periods and annual or category maximums. Ask whether preventive, basic and major services have different treatment. A high percentage does not establish the amount payable for a particular procedure.

A question to take with you

What eligible amount and remaining maximum would be used in a claim?

Identify which plan pays when

Tell the provider about workplace, partner and other existing plans. Ask how coordination works and which documents are needed. Keep Canadian supplemental benefits distinct from U.S. health insurance arrangements; eligibility, networks and enrolment rules differ by product and location.

A question to take with you

How does this plan coordinate with the benefits already available to me?

Make the next conversation useful

Bring the current documents and explain any changes. These details are a useful starting point:

  • Existing benefit plan and end date
  • Benefit priorities and desired start date
  • Province of residence and eligibility

Ask the provider to connect its answer to the actual policy or eligibility terms, including exclusions, dates and reporting conditions. Keep the confirmed answer with the offer.
